Leftfield - “Afrika Shox” (1999)

Director Chris Cunningham paints the ultimate masterpiece of urban creepiness. Bambataa sings over the pulsing beats while all the classic big city cliches run through. Gloomy skylines, gridlock traffic and underground breakdancers expose the true reality of the metropolitan environment: it’s a jungle out there, and it will break the weak and unprepared. Afrika himself makes a cameo towards the end as a colourful shamanlike figure, bestowing cult status to this obscure big beat gem from the late nineties. Man, i had even forgot they used to call this ‘big beat’.
